Holiday Card project

What is the holiday Card Project?
*The purpose of the GHoliday Card Project is to create holiday cards for people who are hospitalized during the holiday season. The idea behind the project is to simiply bring a little cheer to those who are undergoing hospital stay,

Exactly who recieves the cards?
*The cards will be distributed to both US and international hospitals. The cards will be deliverd in-person by a representative. The patients who receive the cards age in range from children to seniors and have illness or injuries that vary from mild to terminal.

What should I write in a card?
*Be as creative as you'd like. Just remember, the degree of illness for patients will vary, so it is important to be cheerful. Some suggested greetings include, "Hope you're feeling better", Thinking of you". or "Have a nice day". Try to stay away from "Get well soon" as it might not be appropriiate for all patients. Remember to include a message of "Happy Holidays"

Will the patients know who sent the cards?
*The only way a patient will know who the card is from is if you sign your name. If you would like to send you card anonymously, you may.

Can I send more than one card?
*Absolutley! However, remeber that quality is better than quality. Sending one quality card that you put time and effort into is better than sending two cards that were thrown together.

Is ther a specific size or medium for the card?
*There is no specific size for the cars. Use your best judgement. You can design and decorate cards by drawing. colorind or painting. You can use glitter, construsction papper, cardboard. markers, crayons, color pencils, ribbon, etc. to make your card speacial. You can also desidn your card using Photoshop. In Photoshop please use 4x6 or 5x7 for your dimensions.

An intelligent enrmy is better than a stupid friend

The proverb means that its better to have an intellegent enemy because you would always have to step your game up. I think that it is ture cause you wouldn't have to prove anything to your stupid friend. For instance I had an intellegent enemy I would always have to be on point and one step ahead of him/her. You never really know what would happen if you don't stay on point.

Further more It could posibly hurt you futher down the line because your enemy might be more ntellegent than you. So in a way I don't think that an intellegent enemy could aways be the best thing. I also don't think it would be the best to have a stupied friend any way. I result I think it could go both ways it depends on how intellegent you are.

"Knowledge is like a garden, if it is not cultivated, it can not be harvested."

I believe that the proverb means if you don't refine what you know, you will forget it. For instance if you learn something in preschool and the next year you don't go over it there is a chance you could forget it. Further more if that was the case you would not only forget that you would forget everything you learn each year cause it was not refined. In result i think the proverb is very true.

African Proverb #8

A person who knows proverb can reconcile differences"

I believe that it is very true cause you have to tell what is the difference in each proverb and say which is better. For instance "It is better to be loved than feared". In that one you have to pick which is better. Therefor you do have to tell the differences.

Further more if you don't know how to reconcile the differences you wont know how to answer the proverb . For example if you had a proverb like...""The fool speaks, the wise person listens". You would have to think of how listening and speaking are different. That would be how you would start off answering the proverb. In result you do have to reconcile the differences.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

African Proverb #7

"It is better to be loved than feared"

I think that the proverb is so true. I believe that its not the best thing to be scared of cause people don't like being scared. I remember when I my father was telling me about this man who was scared of one his of his friends for no reason at all. The next thing you know the scared man shot and killed one of my dads friends. Just cause he thought the man was doing to kill him.

Further more who wants to be scared of. For instance how would you make friends if everyone is scared of you? Unless they were just kiss ups and in that case those king of people are not true friends. I know for a fact those kind of "friends" don't last long. In result it is way better to be loved.

Extra Money

What if you had an extra $100,000 to give away.

If I had an extra $100,000 I would give it to the homeless shelters. I believe that they need it more than me. For example they don't have clothes to change into every day and I do. They also don't know when their next meal is coming.

Further more they don't even have a real home. For instance when I go out I know that I have a home to go to. I know if I was homeless I would want someone to do the same for me. In result I believe that giving them the money would be much better than me just spending it on myself.

African Proverb #6

I believe that the proverb means a fool always speaks and never listens, but the wise always listens to learn. For instance in the class the one who never learn anything is the one who is always talking. Further more the one who is as quiet as a mouse knows way much more. In result I think that the proverb is so true cause if your taking you are not listening.

08 -09 School year

What are you goals for this year? Did you accomplish thoes goals last year? (If yes)How did you accomplish them? (If no)What did you do wrong? What are the benefits of attending New Media Tech Charter School? Which subject was your weakest/strongest last year?

Of course my goals for this year is to go all A's and B's. I believe that I accomplished that goal last year but I did not get my last report card. It seems I accomplished that goal by doing my homework every night, handing in my work and studying. As a result for doing my work I got the grades I wanted.

I feel that the beneifits of attending this school is being well educated not only on math and reading but also in African American history. For example before I came to this school I did not know that African people were the first settelers in Egypt. Clearly had I not came to this school and done my science project I would not have known that. Surprisingly my weakest subject was reading and my strongest was and scoial studies.

PSSA!!

I belive that I did well. In fact I know that I did well because of all the test prep we did. Therefore I should have have done well. I feel that I did a little better in reading than in math. Perhaps because in the reading you could always go back to the text and in math you either know it or you dont.

But then again in math I pretty much was taught everything on the test so I can't complain. In addition I thought that the test was ok. Some of the questions were a little hard but I got past it. It seems like the test went by fast and it wasent even all that hard. I think that we all did a good job.

Further more I think that we all did an outstanding job. However there was a lot of kids who said ''I'm gonna write anything". I can't decide on if we made AYP or not. In sort I really do hope for the best.

-*What the brain sees*-

The brain most quickly and easily responds to Four major attributes of all viewed objects:color, form, depth and movement.
*COLOR*
Every color we see can be made with three basic, primary colors-Red, Green, and Blue AKA RGB

*Secondary color in light are formed when 2 primary colors are mixed together. When mixed equally, red and blue light will make magenta. Green and red will make yellow. Blue and green will create cyan AKA CMYK

*MORE*
if you were to put up a bill board would you use RGB or CMYK? I would use CMYK cause you have more colors to work with. I would use RGB if was working on the internet to make the filel would be much smaller.

*FORM*
Another common attribute of images that the brain responds to is the recognition of form. Form defines the outside adges and internal parts of an object and has three parts: Dot, Shapes, Lines
*DOTS*
The dot is the simplest form that can be written. Hundreds of small dots grouped todether can form complex picthers. Georges Seural and other pantillist artists in the nineteeneenth century used a technique called pointillism.

*LINES*
When dots of the same size are drawn so closely together that there is no space batween them, the result is a line. Lines wather straight, curved or in comdination, evoke an emotion.

*moods of lies*
1.)Curved lines convey a mood of playfulness and movement.
VS
2.)If lines are thick and dark their massage is strong and confingent.
3.)If lines are thin and light with a clear separation between them, their mood is delicate, perhaps a bit timid.

*SHAPES*
The third type of form, shapes. is the comdination. The three basic shapes are parallelograms, circles, and triangles.

*DEPTH*
If humans had only one eye and confined their visual message to drawings on the walls of caves, there would be no need for complex illustrations. But because we have 2 eyes set slightly apart, we naturally see in therr rather than 2 dimenions.

*MOVEMENT*
Reconizing movement is one of the most important traits in the survival of an animal. There are four typs of movement: real, appernt, graphic, and imlied.
1.)Real Movement:is it actual movement by some other person or object.
